PPO's statement for the City of Portland's hearing for the Columbia River Crossing
Submitted by Jeremy on July 6, 2008 - 8:23pm
Regarding the Columbia River Crossing public hearing on July 9th, 2008, we the members of the council for Portland Peak Oil are in agreement on the following points.
- Heed the advice of the Peak Oil Task Force to avoid large infrastructure investments that may not be required as rising energy costs alter travel behavior.
- Support an independent analysis of the greenhouse gas and induced automobile travel demand forecasts for the project.
- Support the creation of a supplemental draft environmental impact statement to allow public consideration of a wider range of options.
- Request that at this time you vote no on what is being referred to as the local preferred option and retain Portland's power regarding this project as it moves forward.
