Ideas for May 24th and the 31st Wednesdays?

We didn't have a formal Outreach meeting in May, so we still need to schedule what we're going to do at St. Francis the evenings of May 24th and the 31st. We could show a movie (which one?), have a speaker (any ideas?) or discussion.

Please comment with suggestions. Thanks.

Power of Community

Now that the official version of Power of Community has been released we should show it. As it is only an hour long we could have a Q&A session afterwards or have a potluck beforehand so we can eat while watching the movie.

start the reading circle for when Technology fails?

Another idea for May 31 is to start the reading circle for When Techonology Fails. If we announce it tomorrow night that should give people enough time to read the first chapter or two. I believe the first chapter is really short.

May 31st

I suggested earlier (in a separate forum entry) that since May 31 is a 5th Wednesday and it was suggested that those be potlucks, that we could have a talent show along with it. That could be a fun way to help build community in our group, and get to know each other as PEOPLE instead of "presenters" and "attenders".

May 24th and 31st

It is getting to be spring and I have heard fun more than once in many of the suggestions for going forward. I like the idea of a talent show ( a way of engaging the audience into impromptu activity ).

I also have a book on how to make old-fashioned toys. Many of these were hand-buildable. I remember a guy at the country fair that ran a little portable band-saw with a bicycle. He made little merry-go-rounds for the kids all day long.

We have also mentioned herbal lectures. I could have my daughter lecture on massage. Jeremy, myself, and a few others could research alternate networks.

Let me know if any of these ideas spark anybody.
For a talent show, I think we should collectively do a peak oil play (funny, of course). Anybody up for play practice??

"Food Production and Population Growth"

"Food Production and Population Growth" is a video of a discussion of the topic with Daniel Quinn, author of "Ishmael"... i think this guy makes a lot of sence and even though it's not about "Peak Oil" it's deffinetly relevant... the video is on 2 DVDs, may be an hour and a half each - that's a lot, yes, but it's in depth.
Nothing against the "talent show" idea... if we don't care to watch this as a group i'd be more then happy to give it to individuals.

music and laughs with potlock!

I would like to "second" the talent show / music jam idea combined with a potluck. I think it would be difficult to try to organize in the timeframe left, however. I'd love to participate, it'd be hard to coordinate/polish a suitable performace. I will help with that for the next one.
