Now What?

I just learned about peak oil. I'm worried about my personal future. What happens to my savings in the stock market? What happens to the value of my real estate? I'm overwhelmed by this new information and I'm grasping for ideas on how to protect my family and our future.
We are planning to retire to a house we have in Portland in seven years. We will be able to walk to the Mississippi area. Do you think that's going to be a good place to weather the strom and survive through our final days?

come to the wednesday meeting
It's best to start coming to the wednesday meetings were folks can start chatting with folks in a similar position. As for the other issues, it is really difficult to give an answer with any certainty. Personally I'm figuring out how to reduce my expense and basing my choices on the likelyhood of significant economic issues and significant increases in liquid fuel costs.
