Help create Bicycle Blvds in N/NE PDX

I got this email & thought that some of you might be interested in doing the survey to determine roadways that might make good bicycle boulevards.

****

Greetings,

Your neighborhood in north/northeast Portland has Parks, Schools, and great activities for families but it is missing one thing; Bicycle Boulevards.

A Bicycle Boulevard is a roadway which has been designed or modified to divert its usage for through travel by automobiles while still allowing through travel by cyclists. A Bicycle Blvd improves bicycle safety and circulation by creating low traffic volumes and using traffic control devices to help bicycles cross major arterial roads.

As part of a course on Community Development, a group of Portland State University students are helping the Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA) plan a bicycle boulevard network in north and northeast Portland.

We have developed a short survey to identify streets that might be candidates for development into bicycle boulevards. Your input will constitute the rough data, as we will take piecemeal stretches of bike-friendly roads and connect them together in a network plan.

This project runs through the end of May and we plan to deliver our findings to the BTA by June. If you ride in and around north and northeast Portland, please take a few seconds to offer your insights into which streets would make good bicycle.

Or find out more about Bicycle Boulevards at: www.bta4bikes.org

Please share this information with other members of your neighborhood association because it is important for as many people as possible to be included in our research.
Thank you,
