The November 19th meeting of the Portland Permaculture Guild is an introduction to a very important new project called ReCode Portland. ReCode will be working with the city to change codes that prohibit many aspects of sustainability at the present time. This is a crucial step in transitioning our city in preparation for the end of cheap oil. Everyone is encouraged to attend!
Join Brush and Brenna from TLC Farm to discuss ReCode Portland, a project to bring together builders, permaculturists, activists, planners, and local officials to strategize and implement a rapidly phased transformation of our land use, building, and health regulations to encourage grassroots sustainable urban living.
Portland's business and government leaders recognize that sustainability is our competitive advantage; but to retain that cachet we need to move to the forefront of progressive regulatory action. Currently, many of the most valuable -- and proven -- sustainability technologies are difficult or illegal to implement according to code. Together, we can turn that around, and build our movements for change in the process!
We will discuss the project as a whole, and then focus on greywater, identified as the low-hanging fruit we can use as an immediate catalyst.
Guild meetings are held at Pacific Crest Community School, N.E. 29th and Davis. The optional potluck is at 6:00 p.m., meeting topic starts at 7:00. Please bring your own plate/cup/utensils and a yummy dish to share!
