Did you know how close Portland and Seattle were to "shutting down" in the early 1970's?
Submitted by Leon Breckenridge on January 15, 2008 - 3:31pm.
I got my advanced degree in Management of Waste and Energy Systems in 1974. Much of the discussion I now read/hear are not much different than those at that time. I believe we are orders of magnitude worse of today and things are getting worse at an increasing rate. There are both economic and technical solutions available today that have been proven at at least one location. We the people seem so set against change that we will not DEMAND that they be implemented.

What are you talking about? Did I miss something?
Early 1970's natural gas crises
The British Columbia gas fields "watered up" due to fast draw down. Central Washington University along with everyone else in the NW that had "back-up" fuel was off gas for 4 months. It was very, very close. It did not make the papers because they were afraid people would panic.
Also during Eisenhower last term he had a "white paper" produced about future oil and other shortages. It predicted most of what is happening today.
