Metal Theft
Submitted by scotty on September 13, 2006 - 5:16pm.
I'm sure many of you have been aware of media stories from various parts of the country and world concerning resource looting (telephone poles being stolen, statues being pilfered, etc., etc.)
I thought I'd pass along this story from our own backyard reminding us of the impact of resource depletion. The information below comes from the office of Commissioner Adams, sent via his monthly neighborhood email.

I want to know if metal theft is a problem or you and your business
Businesses along Riverside Way in the Columbia Corridor have recently approached me about the problem of metal theft. Several businesses are having metal stolen right off their buildings. Thieves have literally ripped the wire from between electrical boxes and vital machinery, resulting in downtime. The businesses are left with repair bills which mount into the thousands, and loss of work that results in costly loss of revenue. There are currently few effective mechanisms tracking the sources of scrap metal, or the metal recycling industry.
Please contact Jane Ames if you are having problems with the theft of metal (james@ci.portland.or.us)
