Location
Portland State University Main Ballroom

Body:
On April 8, 2006, Portland, as part of a national conference series, will be hosting PowerShift, a conference on energy security and policy. The 2006 PowerShift National Tour is a public education effort designed to engage decision-makers, youth, farmers, media and the general public on energy security. With the rise in gas prices after hurricanes Katrina and Rita, continued instability among the world's largest oil-producing nations, and indications that global warming may be reaching a "tipping point" of no return, America is ready to look at long-term solutions to our dependence on oil.
20/20 Vision is organizing a series of regional events on university campuses and a national youth conference in Washington, DC to better understand the dangers of US oil dependency to our economy, security and environment, while exploring promising solutions. A key component of the events will be the Oil Shockwave College Tour simulation developed by the National Commission on Energy Policy and Securing America’s Future Energy.
The Portland conference will be featuring Earl Blumenhauer as the key-note speaker as well as other local leaders and groups. This is a great opportunity to learn more about how energy dependence is affecting us both the local and national level and learn what can be done about it. This conference is free and open to the public and can be registered for online at: http://power-shift.org/agenda-portland.html. At this site you can also access the conference schedule as well as other pertinent information.
NOTE: Portland Peak Oil will be presenting a workshop from 1:30-2:15pm.
