PPO website and e-mail lists

Many moons ago the only route for communication in the group was oregon oil awareness yahoo group and it was basically chaos. We later creating mailing lists for announcements and all of the working groups and in my opinion the announcements list was a complete success but the working group mailing lists sort of worked.
At a few Council meetings (business meetings) we decided to switch over to using CivicSpace for most group communication and drop oregon oil awareness and the working group mailing lists. FYI, in the not too distant future (a month, maybe two) the working groups will have a fully integrated mailing lists that I believe that people in the working group can opt out of getting e-mail if they like.
With the above in mind, there is a chattiness that seems to be missing and I'm trying to figure out how to (re) create it. I'm wondering what people thinking about the following ideas...
1) create general discussion/chat mailing list @portlandpeakoil.org that is not integrated with the CivicSpace. If something particularly good shows up we can post it to CivicSpace.
2) setup more mailbox + forum options, which means you can send and e-mail to blogging@portlandpeakoil.org or forums-news@portlandpeakoil.org and it will be posted to your blog or to the News, Articles, ... forum.
So what do you think?
