Submitted by Urban Scout on May 2, 2006 - 3:22pm.
Thought yall would get a kick out of my new program:
TrackersNW and Mythmedia non-profit presents in good humor and all sincere intentions...
PREEMPTIVE POSTAPOCALYPTICISM: THE SUMMER CAMP
with special guest... Urban Scout
You've seen the news. You've heard the warnings.... is your teen prepared?
It's the end of oil. Water has ceased it's flow from the tap. Food is no longer being shipped. Your car will never see another drop of gas. The lights in Your house have gone out for the last time. Welcome to our camp. Campers will learn valuable skills that will give them confidence in any situation. This week will turn them into unstoppable post-apocalyptic machines.
Your child will be put into a team of 6 other members, including one of our qualified instructors. Mornings will consist of lectures and tool making. In the afternoons we will simulate life in an urban tribe and evenings will be spent around a post-apocalyptic campfire telling stories of the day and discussing the intricacies of collapse.
Our unique urban ecological curriculum covers...
∑ Attitude-staying cool under the heat of collapse
∑ The Hazards of Collapse
∑ Primitive living skills and Foraging
∑ Tool making and Technology Beyond Civilization

∑ Bicycle repair and maintenance
∑ Invisibility and Sensory Awareness

Preemptive Postapocalypticism: The Summer Camp is a partnership program between Mythmedia, TrackersNW and Urban Scout.
TrackersNW hosts unique and exciting local programs for both adult and youth in wilderness arts and sciences and community-enhancing social technologies. Our goal for every program is to help develop positive community experiences for Portland and the Pacific Northwest that are filled with play, learning and growth connected to both the land and its people. Our environment is one of collaboration and peacemaking with every student involved. From our unique urban tracking experiences, and wilderness skills rendezvous, to street theater workshops, students become members of a community responsible for shaping their own experience of adventure and learning as they discover the wonders of the world around them. Mythmedia is a non-profit that was founded in 2002 by a group of high school dropouts who all agree on one thing: that civilization is going out of style fast! Our mission is to facilitate provocative and innovative ideas for a sustainable future using cutting edge media. We’ve been called many things; avant-garde, superstitious, crazy, pretentious environmentalist hipsters, and yet some believe us to be modern visionaries. Whatever we are, we have been slowly building street-cred over the last couple of years, most notably for running Broadcast, Portland’s longest running open mic style film screening, from the success of our annual benefit the Nuclear Winter Formal. This is an exciting time for us, we are soon to acquire our definitive ruling on our tax-exempt status, throw a new annual dance party the Silent Spring Fling, hold our first ever post-apocalyptic summer camp for teens, hold a summer writers workshop for unschoolers, publish the first Mythmedia Quarterly, and begin preproduction for our Restoration Economy film series. Check out www.mythmedia.org.
Urban Scout (a.k.a. Peter Bauer) is the father of Preemptive Postapocalypticism. He lives as though civilization has collapsed so when it does, he won’t be effected by it. So he hunts and gathers by day and goes to rock shows at night. Urban Scout started out as a character in a comedic independent short film and turned into an art/cultural experiment that has spanned many mediums including film, photography, textiles, graphic design, street performance, wilderness skills classes and more. Peter Bauer and Tony Deis are currently writing a feature length film starring the character. They plan to shoot the film in the summer of 2007. Learn more at www.myspace.com/urbanscout.
