Recap: General meeting 2/8/06
Submitted by Emily on February 9, 2006 - 9:40am.
Last night's General Meeting (2/8) was one of our best general meetings yet! Really good turnout (about 40-50) and the topics of the four small group discussions seemed to divide the room pretty evenly. To my eye, there were at least 6-10 new folks who hadn't before attended a Wednesday night.
After our usual intro and announcements in the large circle, we took a short break and split into four discussion circles: "Peak oil 101", "Personal finances and economics", "Public policy", and "Preparedness/neighborhood action". After an hour or so, we reconvened and people shared with the larger group insights from the small groups.
A staff writer from the Willamette Week and a photographer were there the whole evening and he informed us at the end of the evening that the story about Portlanders preparing for peak oil would appear in a late February edition of the paper.
The energy in the room was terrific and everyone seemed to have a good time connecting with one another.
