SUMMARY:1st Friday Community Potluck and Discussion
DESCRIPTION:
Body\:

<p class=\\"MsoNormal\\">While war\, climate change\, and changes in Congress draw the headlines\, the City of Portland’s Task Force on Peak Oil has been meeting\, studying\, researching\, wrangling\, and writing. They have produced some analyses and recommendations for how the city and local folks can take action now to deal with the inevitable results of the decline of fossil fuels. Whether those impacts stomp down on us or build more gradually as fuel availability declines\, huge changes are unavoidable. Planning now will make the changes less difficult –- even exciting -- and can help us avoid some of the biggest dangers of the transition.

<p class=\\"MsoNormal\\">Randy White has been serving on the Committee and will be with us at First Friday for an open discussion of the Task Force findings and recommendations. Citizen input is part of the goal\, so this will not just be a presentation\, but an opportunity to participate in the dialogue around this crucial issue.

SUMMARY:Portland Permaculture Guild - Perennial Vegetables & Seed Exchange
DESCRIPTION:
Body\:

Permaculture...permanent agriculture. Fruits and nut trees are great - you can harvest them year after year without replanting\, and most become more productive over time. But what about vegetables? Join the Portland Permaculture Guild Monday Feb. 19th for a discussion on vegetables that can take a permanent position in your garden. We'll talk about a variety of veggies from roots to shoots to leaves to \\"fruits\\"! Everyone will be able to share their favorites (if they have one!) and learn new ones suited for this area as well. We'll include preparation and storage ideas too as time permits.

We will also hold an informal seed exchange - bring along any seeds you have to share. Anyone who would like to participate can bring a few used envelopes or other containers to take home their new seeds. It is not required to bring any seeds to get a few new types for your garden!

Portland Permaculture Guild meets at Pacific Crest Community School at NE 29th &amp\; Davis (2 blocks N of Burnside). The optional potluck starts at 6\:00 p.m. - please bring your own plate/cup/utensils and a yummy dish to share. Please label your dish wheat/dairy/meat/etc. if applicable. The meeting topic starts at 7\:00. Hope to see you there!
