Body: While war, climate change, and changes in Congress draw the headlines, the City of Portland’s Task Force on Peak Oil has been meeting, studying, researching, wrangling, and writing. They have produced some analyses and recommendations for how the city and local folks can take action now to deal with the inevitable results of the decline of fossil fuels. Whether those impacts stomp down on us or build more gradually as fuel availability declines, huge changes are unavoidable. Planning now will make the changes less difficult –- even exciting -- and can help us avoid some of the biggest dangers of the transition. Randy White has been serving on the Committee and will be with us at First Friday for an open discussion of the Task Force findings and recommendations. Citizen input is part of the goal, so this will not just be a presentation, but an opportunity to participate in the dialogue around this crucial issue. | ||
