Co-Housing research
At the general meeting tonight, one of our small group discussions centered around the idea of forming a co-housing community. We were mainly kicking around ideas at this point. Robin Canaday instigated the session and has the notes and will post them soon.
In the meantime, one of the things we were all going to do is brainstorm individually about what we want in a co-housing community and then post those thoughts for further discussion.
Below are links for co-housing and intentional communities I've encountered on the web. I do not have personal contacts at any of them, nor have I visited them.
I suggest those of us who are interested in pursuing this each examine their sites and take note of which aspects of these examples of co-housing most interest us, or turn us off. I would also suggest that we try to set up appointments to visit one or more of the local communities as a group.
Windward is an intentional community in the gorge. While we are exploring co-housing rather than full on intentional community, their section on The Fine Print bears consideration in formulating community standards.
Cascadia Commons is an established Portland co-housing community.
Trillium Hollow is another established Portland co-housing community.
Cranberry Commons is a co-housing community in Burnaby BC.
Pacific Gardens is a co-housing community under construction in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, BC.
WindSong CoHousing is a co-housing community in Langley, BC.

As it happens (whooHoo!) I'm going to be moving into a rented studio at TH this month. I'm sure they would be very welcoming to anyone from your group that wants a tour and to get a chance to ask questions.. I haven't yet discussed PO with anyone but planned on it once I'm settled in a bit. I've no doubt they would be ahead of the curve on it.
I'm sorry I'm not able to come to PPO meetings, I work evenings. Congrats to the group for all your recognition of late! I know a lot of hard work is behind it. Even my friends back home (upstate NY) have heard about it.. :)
